Juan Luis Rod

Juan Luis holds a Certificate in Foreign Language (English) from the University of Seville and is a University Expert in Applied Photography from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (Alicante). He also completed a Professional Photography Course at EFTI (Madrid) and earned a Postgraduate degree in Photojournalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He won the International Human Rights Competition 10/12/48 (Women’s Rights Award) and was selected among the winners of the Contemporarte Contest. His work has been featured in numerous national and international exhibitions, including in Italy, Chile, Brazil, Portugal, Niger, and Spain. Additionally, he has published several photography books with other collectives, such as ‘Contemporarte 2015’ and ‘Flamantes 2016.’
He has worked as a photographer for El Periódico and has also published his work in media outlets such as Equal Times, The Guardian, Deutsche Welle, Internazionale, Fox News, The Brussels Times, EL MUNDO, Planeta Futuro, El Salto Diario, and is currently a regular contributor to EL PAÍS.
He has collaborated with NGOs such as Doctors of the World, Agence Française de Développement, Red Cross, Action Aid, CIC, Alliance for Solidarity, and Mother Courage, among others, across countries including Uganda, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Gambia, Mauritania, South Africa, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and more. He also collaborates with agencies like AFP, Anadolu Images, and Getty Images. As a co-founder of SUMERGEte Photography School, he effectively balances his coordination and instruction roles while pursuing his personal projects. Also, he is co-founded the WE ARE PHOTO collective.
